Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Help, I can’t use my Grab app!
A: Please update your Grab app to continue using Grab.
Q: Why do I have to update my Grab app?
A: We regularly update our app to give you be latest feature enhancements, bug fixes, security updates and make your ride bookings smoother, safer and more reliable.
Q: I cannot update my Grab app, what do I do?
A: The latest Passenger Apps run on iOS 9 and above, and Android 4.0.3. If you are on iPhone 4 or below, you will not be able to update to iOS 9 and can no longer use Grab (users on iPhone 4S onwards can upgrade their operating systems to iOS 9). We don’t foresee any issues with Android users because Android 4.0.3 was released a long time ago (in 2011!)
Q: What happens to users on iOS 8 and below? Same restrictions to jail broken phones
You need to update iOS to install latest Grab app version:
- For users on iOS 8 who have already installed our app, the highest version that they can update is v4.39 (the last Pax App that supports iOS 8). You need to update your iOS and the Grab app to the latest version to continue using Grab post 10 March 2018.
- For users on iOS 8 who do NOT have our app installed, you can see the latest Grab app in iTunes but won’t be able to install. You need to update your iOS and your Grab app to 4.42.1 to continue using Grab post 30 December.
Q: What happens to users on iPhone 4 and below?
Unfortunately, these passengers are on a phone model that cannot update past iOS 8 and therefore can no longer use Grab. What we can advise you to do is to download Grab app on a newer iPhone or Android device.
Q: If a passenger cannot access their Grab app because they are an iPhone 4 or below user and they have GPC and GrabRewards points, can they get a refund?
A: Yes and no, see below.
Q: Can I get a rewards points refund?
A: No. Rewards points are not refundable or transferable.
Q: Can I get a GPC refund?
A: Typically, no. However in the case of iPhone 4 users that cannot transfer their accounts to a newer device, and therefore can no longer use Grab, we can take action.
Q: Can I set up my account on a new device with the same sim card/phone number to access my current Grab profile, GrabPay Credit and GrabRewards points?
A: YES! You can set up your existing account on a new device, using the same login information (phone number or social profile). Passenger GrabPay Credits and rewards points will appear immediately. If pin was set up, card info will be carried over, if it was not, then you will have to set up card info again.
Q: What if I’m using a new device with a new sim card/new phone number?
A: If you is using a social login, this will not be an issue. If you have a Grab account only tied to a phone number, then this is trickier. You will need to use your old phone number tied to your existing account a be able to access an SMS that will be sent to that old phone number. It’s best if you use the same sim/phone number that you use for Grab on your new device.
